Mobile Care
Home or institutional-bound? Busy family life? No problem!I Will Come to You!
Professional dental hygiene care can be difficult for some people to access. Home or institutional-bound people may be physically unable to visit a clinic, which is what inspired me to expand my practice to include mobile dental hygiene services.
By going directly into homes and care centres, I am able to provide preventive care to those who wouldn’t normally be able to receive it, whether it is in a wheelchair, at home or at an extended care facility. Many of my senior clients benefit from having a professional cleaning to assist in their overall health, as well as the option to have their dentures clean of plaque, tarter and bacteria.
I will refer you to a local dentist, denturist or other dental professional should the need arise.
Mobile Services Include:
Scaling, Polishing and Temporary Fillings
The removal of plaque, tarter and bacteria is the best way to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Scaling is the removal of plaque and tarter deposits from the teeth, both above and below the gum line. If left untreated, gingivitis and periodontitis are possible, which can further lead to tooth loss. Dental polishing is done to remove any stains that teeth gather from food we eat or drink. I am also qualified to offer temporary fluoride-containing fillings for anyone who has tooth decay and is unable to get to the dentist in a timely manner.
Fluoride Application
Many senior clients experience dry mouth as a result of using medication. Dry mouth can increase the risk of tooth decay and a fluoride application can be helpful in these instances.
Denture Cleaning
The cleaning of dentures is as important as cleaning the natural teeth to remove bacteria, plaque and tarter.
Silver Diamide Fluoride Application (SDF)
If a client cannot immediately get to a dentist, SDF can be applied to the decayed tooth surface to stop the decay. Once the decay is stopped, a temporary filling can be placed over top.
Oral Cancer Examination and Oral Hygiene Instruction
The mouth will be assessed for unusual lesions, abnormal colour, growth or texture and an individualized home-care plan will be provided as well as a referral to a specialist as needed.
Did You Know…
Using a manual toothbrush can be difficult and even painful if you suffer from arthritis or mobility problems in your wrists, hands or arms.
Electric toothbrushes can help if you struggle with these challenges and will improve your oral hygiene routine. Powered toothbrushes have chunkier handles that are easier to grip and they do all the hard work for you, including reaching the tricky areas at the back of your mouth, which can be difficult to get at with an ordinary toothbrush.
